Sadhu Basant Residential Care (SBRC) aims at providing a home for the mentally challenged, where they can live and work with dignity. This project took shape out of the concern of parents of mentally challenged children. It has been observed that mentally challenged persons are neglected after the death of their parents. In spite of the fact that many parents bequeath part of their property for the care of their mentally challenged wards, the siblings or guardians more often than not are unable to fulfill the need for healthy and respectful living of the mentally challenged individual.

Many such parents were impressed by the fond care being given to their children at Navjivini School of Special Education, Sular, Patiala (www.navjivini.org) and wanted similar arrangements to be provided for life. Majority of the staff and professionals rendering assistance to SBRC are well versed with the handling of special persons of all age groups. The programs offered to SBRC residents have been undertaken at Navjivini for the last twenty years.
